그리니치 왕립 천문대선정 2014년의 천문사진전의 수상작품들

그리니치 왕립 천문대에서 주관하는 2014년의 천문사진전의 수상작품들이라고 하네요.

2014년의 천문학 사진작가 경쟁부분은 부부특별상을 특별히 추가해서 총 5가지 부분에서 수상이 이뤄졌다는군요.

1. 말머리 성운 Photo by BillSnyder

위의 말머리성운은 미국의 빌 스나이더씨가 찍은 사진으로 "Deep Space"경쟁 부분에서 우승한 작품이라하는군요. 

말머리 성운은 밤하늘에서 가장 인기 했는 피사체중의 하나인데요. 인기가 있다는 것은 그만큼 찍는 사람이 많아서 한마디로 "흔한 말머리 성운 사진"이 되는 편이지만, 보통은 말머리 성운의 사진촬영이 가로로 촬영되는 것에 반해서, 세로로 촬영되면서, 말머리 성운의 아래쪽의 파란색의 별빛 먼지구름까지 잡아 냈다는 것이 좀더 신선한 촬영이라 인정된 모양이네요.

2. 케냐에서의 일식 사진 Photo by Eugen Kamenew

Eugen Kamenew씨는 독일인이며, "사람과 우주"라는 경젱 부문에서 수상했어요.

케냐의 사바나의 스카이라인위에서 펼쳐진 태양과 달의 일식을 촬영했는데요.

이 일식은 하이브리드 일식이라고도 불리는데요. 달이 태양을 완전히 가리는 일식을 개기일식. 달이 태양을 가렸지만, 크기가 맞지 않아서 마치 태양이 금반지 처럼 보이는 일식을 금환일식이라고 하는데요. 

이런 하이브리드 일식은 개기일식+금환일식일 때를 뜻해요. 위의 사진이 바로 가장 적절한 사례이죠. 위쪽은 개기일식이지만 아래쪽은 금환일식이 되어 있어서 더 신비로움을 자아내고 있죠. 그러한 일식의 금환 테두리 안쪽에 아프리카 원주민의 실루엣이 들어가 있으니 이 얼마나 신비로운 모습인가요?

3. 은하 NGC3718 Pohoto By Mark Hanson

미국의 Mark Hanson이 촬영한 "Robotic Scope" 경쟁부분의 수상작이라는군요. 

뉴멕시코주 아니마스의 Rancho Hidalgo에서 촬영했다는 군요. 

NGC3718의 나선의 모양이 이상하게 왜곡되어진 모습을 볼 수 있는데요. 좌측아래쪽의 은하(NGC3729)와의 중력의 상호작용으로 인해 왜곡되어진 것이 아닐까 생각한다는군요.

4. 뉴질랜드의 크리스 머피가 촬영한 뉴질랜드의 와이라라파(Wairarapa) 행정구의 바위지대에서 은하수를 촬영한 사진.

Chris Murphy of New Zealand won the "Sir Patrick Moore Prize for Best Newcomer" for this image of the Milky Way and a rock formation in the Wairarapa district of New Zeland. The lack of light pollution on a clear, crisp night allowed the photographer to capture amazing details.

5. 영국의 알렉산더 하트가 우리태양계 부문에서 수상한 태양의 표면 사진.

Alexandra Hart of the U.K. was the winner in "Our Solar System" category for this photo of the sun's boiling surface. Titled "Ripples in a Pond," the picture conveys the scale and violence of our home star. The region of solar activity on the left could engulf the Earth several times over, with room to spare. The sun's outer layers behave as a fluid and are constantly twisted and warped by intense magnetic forces.

6. 미국의 패트릭컬리스가 고고도  풍선에서 촬영한 지구와 우주의 사진.

Patrick Cullis of the U.S. was "highly commended" in the "Earth and Space" category for this photo, taken with the aid of a high-altitude balloon. Poised on the brink of space, this astonishing shot shows the curving Earth with the towering Rocky Mountains reduced to tiny wrinkles on the surface below. The moon appears as a distant point of light. Launched from Boulder, Colorado, the balloon was at the 87,000-foot level when the image was made.

7. 오스트레일리아의 맷 제임스가 지구와 우주 부분에서 입상한 장노출 촬영 사진. 흑백기법으로 오스트레일리아의 조지호에서 촬영.

Matt James of Australia was the runner-up in the "Earth and Space" category for this long-exposure image of a wind farm on the shore of Australia's Lake George. The striking monochromatic composition depicts the power of the wind along with the motion of the sky, illuminated by the shower of stars transforming into trails as Earth rotates.

8. 역시 오스트레일리아의 줄리에 플레쳐가 사람과 우주 부문에서 입상한 사진. 줄리에는 이사진의 제목을 "lost souls"라고 명명했다. 

Julie Fletcher of Australia was the runner-up in the "People and Space" category for this image of the night sky over Lake Eyre, which she titled "Lost Souls." The brilliant point of light is Venus. The lake is the lowest natural point in Australia.

9. 지구로부터 1470광년 떨어진 백조자리의 초신성의 사진.

J.P. Metsävainio of Finland was 'highly commended" in the "Deep Space" category for this detail shot of the Veil Nebula, a supernova remnant in the constellation Cygnus, about 1,470 light-years from Earth.

10.Shishir and Shashank Dholakia of the U.S. were the winners of the "Young Astronomy Photographer of the Year" for this image of the Horsehead Nebula. The red glow is produced by hydrogen gas that has become ionized by neighboring stars. The photograph draws particular attention to the cloud of heavily concentrated dust within the horsehead, which is silhouetted against the gas cloud's red glow.

11.Catalin Beldea of Romania was 'highly commended' in the "Earth and Space" category for this view of one of nature's greatest spectacles, a total solar eclipse, captured from an airplane high over Kenya. The photographer was due to shoot this rare occurrence from the eastern shore of Lake Turkana, but a huge sandstorm hit the region 40 minutes before totality. The pilot changed course to intercept the eclipse. Belda was lucky enough to capture the phenomenon, which lasted a mere 10 seconds, through the open door of the small airplane.

12. 영국의 제임스우드엔드가 아이슬란드의 바트나이외쿠틀 국립공원에서 호수에 반사된 오로라와 하늘의 오로라를 동시에 촬영한 사진.

개인적으로 참 마음에 드는 사진이네요.

James Woodend of the U.K. was named the contest's "Overall Winner" for this image of a vivid green aurora and its reflection in Iceland's Vatnajokull National Park.
